Superintendent Performance Scorecard
The Superintendent Performance Scorecard is designed to help General Superintendents evaluate field leadership based on consistent standards rather than personality, effort, or isolated project results.
It provides a structured way to review the areas that most directly affect project performance, including planning, schedule control, trade coordination, safety leadership, communication, quality, accountability, and team development.
The scorecard is not intended to punish Superintendents or create unnecessary paperwork. It is a practical coaching and tracking tool used to identify strengths, uncover repeated weaknesses, establish clear expectations, and measure improvement over time.
Used consistently, it helps the General Superintendent determine whether a Superintendent is progressing, remaining stagnant, or creating increasing risk for the project and organization.
The goal is simple: create clearer conversations, stronger accountability, and more capable field leaders.
The Superintendent Performance Scorecard gives a General Superintendent a consistent way to evaluate how each Superintendent is actually performing in the field.
Instead of relying on personality, effort, or whether a project simply “looks okay,” the scorecard helps the GS review the areas that matter most - planning, schedule control, trade coordination, safety, quality, communication, accountability, and leadership.
It helps the GS:
- Identify weak patterns before they become project problems
- Compare performance across multiple Superintendents and projects
- Prepare for more direct and productive coaching conversations
- Set clear expectations for improvement
- Track whether coaching is working over time
- Recognize who is ready for more responsibility
- Determine when additional oversight, reassignment, or stronger accountability is needed
Most importantly, the scorecard helps the GS move from reacting to problems to managing field leadership with a repeatable system.
It creates clarity for both the General Superintendent and the Superintendent being evaluated.
This is not a one-time exercise, it is a weekly operating system.
